It was a great weekend of bowls at the club as we hosted our Men’s and Women’s Club Singles and Club Novice Singles Championships! It was great to see bowlers of all levels of experience from first year bowlers right up to former National Champions hitting the green in search of our top title in the club. Congratulations to our 2023 Champions: Jim Byrne (Men’s Club Singles), Nancy Latimer (Women’s Club Singles), Charlie Hilchie (Club Novice Men’s Singles) and Debbie Mitchell (Club Novice Women’s Singles). Thanks to our Club Match Chair Pat During for all of his hard work to put together this weekend of bowls and to all the volunteers who stepped up to help (including players who spent time marking while on byes during the weekend). Great job everyone! For anyone interested in more big game singles play, we’ll be hosting the Provincial Singles Championship at the end of September at the club (signup is on the bulletin board in the clubhouse).

Happy Canada Day everyone! Today, we held our Canada Day Celebration Jitney with 48 bowlers hitting the greens for a great morning of bowls followed by a “picnic” lunch in the clubhouse with a potluck meal. Congrats to Rick, Rick and Paul on winning this year’s trophy. Thanks to everyone who helped put on the great day on the greens to celebrate our country’s birthday!
Our club celebrated National Bowls Day in the rain and we are so grateful to do so- given the major need for it to help deal with wildfires still being fought in the Tantallon and Shelburne areas. For our communities dealing with loss and worry the rain is a welcome hope for ending this difficult time for our Province. Happy National Bowls Day to all and wishing a safe return to all across the country dealing with Wildfires.
It was a beautiful day at the club today for the first tournament of the 2023 bowls season as we hosted our Early Bird Mixed Triples! 14 teams from across the province competed in singles, pairs and triples competition throughout the day- with lots of great games all over the green. The final results came right down to the late stages of our tiebreaking process- so definitely a tight competition to start the season. Congratulations to Steve Ogden, Terry O’Neil and Debbie Tower- who took out this year’s title. Thanks to Vicki Balcom for organizing this years event, Daniel Sirois for umpiring, Mo Boudreau and Gerald Tower for serving as official scorers and Jan Marshall for running the kitchen. Also special thanks to all of the volunteers who stepped up to mark singles games during two sessions today.
It was a fun day today at the club as we held our Opening Day Jitney! We had 8 rinks of triples play all ready to get started with the 2023 season on a beautiful Victoria Day Monday. Congrats to Sharon Spierenburg’s team- who won this year’s trophy. Thanks to everyone who came out and participated in our opening!
Thanks to Ana Almeida from CTV Morning Live Atlantic for coming out to the club to try lawn bowls and talk about our Try Bowls days and the upcoming 2023 season! We’ll be sure to post a link to their story when it airs. Hope to see many of the show’s viewers come by either to our club or to any of our fellow Lawn Bowls Nova Scotia Member clubs to learn to lawn bowl.
Thanks to everyone who came out for our “Harvest Bowl Closing Day” Jitney on Saturday. We had 4 rinks of bowlers (which was great considering we were potentially expecting rain as we played). Congrats to Larry Anderson, Paula Smith and Mary Cooke for taking home the title. Following bowls- there was an awesome potluck meal for everyone as organized by Janice and the Social Committee. Though we’ll still have bowls on our green until the snow flies- it was a great way to cap off an awesome 2022 season at Dartmouth!
Congratulations to the players who won their spots at the Nationals next year this past weekend in the Provincial Singles Championship! Special congratulations to Charmaine Cameron and Steve Bezanson who took home this year’s championship! Thanks to everyone for making this event a great success!
The Canadian Lawn Bowling Championships team events wrapped up yesterday at the Burlington Lawn Bowls Club with the medal rounds for Fours and Pairs. Nova Scotia had a FANTASTIC showing with 3 teams making it to the gold medal finals. The team of Steve Bezanson and Steve Ogden took the gold in Men's Pairs while the foursome of Tammy Foster-Veinot, Jackie Foster, Debbie Foster and Lorraine Bezanson captured the gold in the Women's Fours. The Men's Fours team of Braeden Campbell, Raymond MacDonald, John Siteman and Liam Campbell captured the Silver medal after coming up against a very strong and experienced team from Alberta. Many tears of joy were shed as brothers, sisters, parents, spouses and friends combined to form these teams that came out on top after a long week of competition under the hot Ontario sun.
We want to send out our congratulations to all the competitors. Be sure to congratulate them yourselves when you see them at the club after they return. The Dartmouth Lawn Bowling Club Singles Championships were held from August 4th-7th. It was a great tournament where club members came together to support one another and have fun.
Congratulations to the Winners! Women's Novice - Joan Hiller Men's Singles - Jim Byrne Women's Singles - Vivian Condran Many thanks to the Umpires, Markers and Scorekeeper along with everyone that pitched in to help prepare for and set up during the 4 day event. |
